By creating an account or using HourBadge, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the platform. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and HourBadge.
You must be at least 13 years old to use HourBadge. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent. By using HourBadge, you confirm you meet these requirements. Organisations must be legally registered entities or recognised community groups.
3.1 You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Do not share your account.
3.2 You must provide accurate information when creating your account. Providing false information — including false volunteer hours or organisation credentials — is grounds for immediate termination.
3.3 You may hold only one volunteer account. Organisations may hold one account per legal entity.
4.1 You agree to show up to confirmed sessions on time, or to cancel in advance through the app if you cannot attend.
4.2 You agree to check in and check out honestly. Gaming the check-in system to earn points without attending is fraud and will result in account termination and forfeiture of all points.
4.3 You agree to treat host organisation staff, coordinators, and fellow volunteers with respect.
4.4 You agree to follow all instructions from host organisations during sessions, consistent with your safety and dignity.
5.1 Organisations agree to post only genuine volunteer opportunities. Disguising paid work, internships, or commercial labour as volunteering is prohibited and will result in permanent removal from the platform.
5.2 Organisations agree to verify attendance honestly and promptly. Fraudulent verification is grounds for removal.
5.3 Organisations agree not to exploit volunteers, request personal data beyond what is needed for the session, or contact volunteers outside the platform for purposes unrelated to the posted opportunity.
5.4 Organisations acknowledge that volunteers are not employees, contractors, or agents of HourBadge. HourBadge is not liable for the conduct of volunteers during sessions.
6.1 Points have no cash value except where cash-equivalent redemption is explicitly enabled for your account and jurisdiction. Points are a loyalty benefit, not currency or property.
6.2 HourBadge reserves the right to adjust points values, reward rates, and the rewards catalogue at any time with reasonable notice.
6.3 Points may be forfeited if they were earned fraudulently, if your account is terminated for violations, or if your account is inactive for more than 24 months.
6.4 Reward availability is subject to partner stock. HourBadge does not guarantee that any specific reward will remain available.
6.5 Airtime and mobile-money redemptions are subject to KYC verification. You must provide accurate identity information to access these rewards.
7.1 HourBadge provides a verified CV feature based on hours confirmed by host organisations. HourBadge verifies that the organisation confirmed the hours — it does not independently audit the content of the work.
7.2 You grant HourBadge a non-exclusive licence to display your verified hours on your public profile (if you have enabled public visibility) and to include anonymised, aggregated data in platform statistics.
7.3 Employers, universities, and third parties who use your shared profile link do so independently. HourBadge is not liable for any decisions made by third parties based on your profile.
The following are prohibited for all users:
You retain ownership of any content you post (profile text, reviews, photos). By posting, you grant HourBadge a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute that content in connection with operating the platform. You confirm you have the right to share any content you post.
HourBadge may suspend or terminate your account at any time for breach of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through Settings. On termination, your points balance is forfeited and your public profile is removed. Your verified hour records may be retained in anonymised form.
11.1 HourBadge provides the platform as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that all features will be available at all times.
11.2 HourBadge is a platform connecting volunteers with organisations. We are not responsible for the conduct of organisations or volunteers during sessions, for the accuracy of organisation-submitted hour records, or for the quality of volunteer experiences.
11.3 To the maximum extent permitted by Kenyan law, HourBadge's liability for any claim arising from use of the platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or KES 5,000, whichever is greater.
11.4 Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Any disputes arising from these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nairobi, Kenya. We encourage you to contact us first at legal@hourbadge.com — most issues are resolvable without formal proceedings.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes with at least 14 days' notice via in-app notification and email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
